A DINING HALL FOR THE RETREAT CENTER
- During his lifetime the 14th Shamar Rinpoche established a retreat center at Bodhi Path Natural Bridge. Shamar Rinpoche saw a need to provide facilities for students and teachers to practice his Lojong teachings. Read about Rinpoche's vision in his own words.
- Of course, facilities will be built in stages, but plans provide for a dining hall/canteen, a bath house, camping and rustic residential facilities, residential cabins, dormitories, a larger meditation hall and a 35 Buddhas stupa. The first stage needed to implement any program is a dining facility. Then, residential facilities will follow.
- The dining hall will have a commercial kitchen, inside dining facilities, an outside terrace for additional diners, restrooms, and an office/administrative center. When this dining hall is complete, along with the existing residential facilities and the existing meditation hall, the retreat center will be able to institute an ongoing retreat program. Also, this facility will anchor larger programs that can currently be held in spacious tents on the enlarged flat area near the dining hall site.
- The proposed dining facility/administrative center will be about 2,500 sq. ft. of enclosed space distributed over two levels. Including required site improvements, the dining hall project is expected to have a budget of about $500,000.
